If you have ever wanted to go deep sea fishing but you have never been able to until now, you are probably really excited and maybe more than a little bit nervous. Before you get on the boat for your first trip, there are several things that you are going to need to have so that you are ready to go and enjoy yourself.
Fishing License
Your fishing license from your hometown won't work unless you live in the same state where you are fishing. You will need to make sure that you have the right fishing license for the state in which you are fishing. If you are going out on a charter, such as Riptide Charters, the company that runs the charter should be able to help you get the license you need. You can also visit that state's website to look for their wildlife management department, which should have an application for a fishing license on it. You will probably have to pay a fee, and it may be increased if you are from out-of-state or to catch certain fish.
Protection
You may think that you are one of those people who never burns, but spending the day out on the water can change that. Not only are you going to get rays coming directly from the sun, you are also going to get rays that are reflected up off of the water and possibly off of the boat. So, make sure you have a very strong sunblock and that you apply it. You may want to look for a sports version since those tend to be stronger and can better hold up to the activity level. You should also make sure that you have a good pair of sunglasses as well as a hat. You may also want to make sure that you carry a long sleeve shirt that you can put on over your other shirt. That can help protect you from the sun and keep you warm since it can be cooler on the water than it is on land. If it is getting dark when you are coming back, you will probably be happy that you brought that shirt or even a light jacket.
Going out deep sea fishing can be a lot of fun. However, making sure that you are prepared for your trip can make your whole trip go even better than it might otherwise go.
